Karandeep Singh, MD, FACC, FSCAI, is the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Catheterization Program at our ESSA Heart and Vascular Institute. Prior to coming to PMC, Dr. Singh used his expertise as an interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist at Gesinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.

This winter, Dr. Singh will perform angioplasty and two types of catheterizations that close holes in the heart, know as PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) and ASD (Atrial Septal Defect). These types of repairs once required open-heart surgery, but today, a catheter with a detachable device releases a plug into the hole.

In addition to working with the cardiology team, Dr. Singh will perform endovascular interventions at PMC. Endovascular procedures are similar to those treating coronary artery disease, but instead of the heart, Dr.
Singh opens arteries in the legs, kidneys and the carotid arteries, which are the large vessels that run from the heart to the head, behind the ears. Another procedure Singh will bring to PMC is a thrombectomy, or the removal of blood clots in the lungs and legs, using a suction catheter.
